Well we've moved in and Phase 1 of our refurbishment are well underway, with the hope that most of it will be complete by the end of October or the early part of November
There are currently around 240 people that call Central Vineyard home, and so one of the challenges we face while we continue to raise funds for the next phase, is that we have far more people who could potentially attend a service than we physically have space for. Even if we had all the funds for phase 2 and 3 now, it would still be a further 6 months before we could move into the lower floor at Sheep Street.
Church Growth pundits say that once a church is 80% full, it's full and can no longer grow, newcomers perceive this and are less likely to stay as they assume their is no room for them.
Now we could just ignore these challenges and ignore the fact we are already at capacity nearly every Sunday and simply close our doors to any newcomers or guests, or we could address the problem and figure out how we make more room.
And so after much deliberation and prayer, we believe our only real option is to temporarily move to two Sunday morning services. We're not rushing into this idea lightly and we want to prepare as much ground as we can before we make this transition. Both services would be identical in content, thus we would offer the same worship and talk at both and they would likely start at 9.30am and 11.15am.
Obviously going to two morning services, puts a strain on our resources in terms of people and man power, but in the same breath it also offers lots of opportunity. Clearly the biggest challenge will be our ability to recruit enough people to make this happen, but with 45% of the the church not serving in any measurable way, we have a significant number of people to start with.
We know this isn't an ideal solution, but I'm sure we all understand the pressure we are under as a team to accommodate those already part of our church community, let alone those Jesus wants to invite during this next season.
In an ideal world 50% of us will go to the first service and 50% to the second, that would make room for at least 100 more adults and children across both services, but we know life isn't as simple as that. Thus, to help prepare the ground and figure out the lay of the land we need everyone to answer and short survey. This will give us the data we need to make a considered plan and know where and who we need to recruit.
So we know you all hate filling out forms and signing up to things, but we really need you help on this occasion, so please, please, please... you've just taken two minutes to read this message, so why not take two more to answer our survey?
We really need everyone to answer to make the data worth while, so singles, couples and families we need all of you. Couples and families please reply as one unit and if you don't have children please just ignore these questions.
It's very simple, but if you need any help please drop us a line.
